Frequently Asked Question
How often does PFLAG Butler County meet? We have one regular meeting the First Sunday of each month. We begin at 5:00 PM with Support Groups where individuals can openly and confidentially discuss issues in their lives. At 6:00 PM we take a quick refreshment break and have a chance to say hello to everyone. At around 6:15, we begin our education/advocacy hour where we feature a speaker and discuss other issues relating to LGBT persons and their friends and family.
What if I am new to the group? If it’s your first time with us or you are just not ready to meet the whole group, we are happy to offer you a chance to talk with one of our facilitators in a private setting. Coming to a PFLAG meeting for the first time may represent a huge step for a lot of people. We want to make you as comfortable and at ease as we can. If you'd like to meet with someone, please see one of our board members or emails us at [email protected]. We will gladly assist you.
Can I bring a friend? Certainly you may. In fact, for first timers, it might help to bring someone you know with you. Our aim is to provide a safe, confidential and comfortable environment.
Who comes to the meetings? There are usually between 15 and 25 people at the meetings. Parents and other family members, friends and other straight allies are present as are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex people.
You are encouraged to attend the entire meeting, but we realize that not everyone needs group support or wishes to be involved in the advocacy work of PFLAG. Whatever needs you need filled, we are here to help!
Is there an expected donation? No. You may join our chapter at any time you wish. Membership dues are currently $30. We also have a basket at the information table for you to contribute to our local chapter's projects and needs. This is a freewill donation. We are a 503c3 organization and we are able to provide you with a receipt for your tax credit donation.
